One Guess Only

Theresa Gordon walked down the old halls of Hogwarts, it had been years since she last set off in the school and was currently here to talk to the headmistress about a teaching oppurtunity. But it was getting late in the evening and felt a interveiw would be best done in the day light of the next morning. Plus she hoped her arm which had been damaged earlier that day would out of its sling by then. She had been caught in a explosion that destroied her Shop in Hogmeade, it had broken her arm and left her with a few good cuts on her body. She had been taken to St. Mungo's by her husband and was just recently discharged. with the assurense from healers her arm should be fine by the next day.

So why was she wondering the halls even though she didn't intend to talk to the headmistress just then? Well to see her older brother Gabrial "Gage" Hall of course. Who was the current potions Professor in the school.

She simled as Gage had no idea about her sudden plans to teach as well, but she has her masters in Divinations and she loved children so why not?

She lifted her hand when she finally found her brothers quarters, some Protraits had been helpful in helping her find it, others had been less so.. Then she knocked afew times and waited for an answer, a smile slowly working it was on her face and she couldn't get it off.

Gage sat in his office, hard at work studying. His chambers where he slept and took things easy was just too comfortable for this activity - which was by no means a complaint. Not only that, but a little pot of floo powder that rested upon the mantle of the fireplace in his chambers served to be almost irresistibly tempting. He had an exam to sit tomorrow night, and thus playtime would have to wait. After several hours of this studious business Gage blinked at the time on his watch. Well, that explained why he suddenly found himself mildly hungry. The wizard stood up, grabbed his cane, and half-hobbled his way to the door.

He had no sooner wrapped his hand around the knob when someone on the other side knocked. The professor immediately released the handle and jumped back, entirely surprised by this. Had he had an audience Gage was almost certain they would have laughed. Brown eyebrows furrowed at the conundrum. Who would be coming to call at this hour? There was only one way to find out. Grasping the handle again and mentally warning the door not to frighten him like that again for no other reason than amusing dialogue Gage pulled open the heavy wooden portal... and nearly dropped his cane at the sight of his baby sister.

"Terri?!" Gage blinked with surprise and delight. The delight part was replaced with alarm as he noticed the sling. "Merlin's Beard, what happened? Are you alright?! Please - in!" he added without giving his sister time to respond. The wizard's eyes darted around looking for any hint as to Theresa's assailant while the rest of him held open the door and stood aside to let her pass. He wondered why his brother-in-law and little niece weren't here, too.

Theresa gave a sheepish smile to her brother, she likely should have warned about everything.. but she just kinda came on a whim.. She and Hayden had talked while at the St. Mungo's and they both agreed it be best if she went through with the idea to teach and with the Divinations position opened, it seemed everything feel into place.

"Hey Gage, yes I am alright, don't worry your self over that" she said holding up her good arm.. if she knew her brother and she believed she did. He'd pester until she spilt.. "already had it looked at and it will be healed by tomorrow And no it doesn't hurt much at all no" she said with a small smile. Besides she'd rather not choke down a vile tasting potion if she could help it...

"There was inncient at my shop earlier.. someone blowitup" She said the last part quickly. She knew the fact that someone had gone so far to blow up her shop with her in it ment biusness... and well she had the feeling her brother might take it harder then she did even.. with him being a former Auror and all..

"Hayden and Sarah are alright, they are back at home, having the house warded, while I came here to ask the headmistress about the empty professor spot.. but then I realized the time and figured I'd wait till morning" she explained flashing her brother a grin "So how was your day?" She asked innocently as she had just dropped a bomb shell on him... of sorts anyway...

Gage was about to the protest: how could he not worry when his baby sister arrived at his office in a sling with all of the attacks going on against muggleborns of late? He silenced his comment when she raised her arm, but still kept it at the forefront. The wizard gave an audible sigh of relief when Theresa assured him she'd had it looked at. A smirk of a smile appeared on his face when she further elaborated it didn't hurt - what his next question would have been. "Well, that's good. Although I hope you're not just saying that so I don't offer you a potion," he teased, closing the door once she was inside.

The wizard turned serious again as his sister provided more details. While he was no longer an auror that part of him was always somewhere just beneath the surface. If it weren't for his leg he'd have kept his job. He immediately tried to recall possible enemies of hers. The only one Gage could think of was her first boyfriend, though he couldn't recall the name. And, obviously, anyone who held pure blood in high esteem would hate the both of them.

It was a piece of good news to hear that her husband and daughter were unharmed and safe at home, to which Gage nodded and brightened a little. He would have to make a trip into Hogsmeade to see his niece some weekend. And if Theresa was going to teach here as well... Well, Gage had absolutely no qualms with that. She was the only one in his family that spoke to him since the falling-out.

Gage blinked and then shook his head when Theresa asked how his day had been. "Your shop gets blown up and you're curious as to how my day was?" he laughed. Seeing as everything was on its way to being alright, and considering the fact she might want to talk about something else for a while, the wizard decided a change of topic wasn't such a bad idea. "My day's been a little busy, though not unpleasantly so. No classes tonight, but I have to take an exam tomorrow," he explained, pulling a face at mention of the exam.

"One thing I have learned, though: it's a whole other ball park teaching the Firsties how to make potions. Probably the first time I've ever taught a class to the song Put the Lime in the Coconut, though I had to change a few of the verses," Gage elaborated with a good-natured chuckle.

"So, this teaching position..." he said after a moment, a mischievous smirk crossing his features. The wizard grabbed an empty potion phial from his desk by its neck and held it upside down so that the bulb faced upwards. "Wonder if my 'crystal ball' can predict what it'll be, or if I should rely on good ol' Eight?" With a grin Gage held up a 'magic eight ball' - also plucked from his desk - in his other hand.
