With a small sigh, Ariadne gently pushed Cygnus's arm off of her chest as soon as she was sure he was asleep. From the rhythmic sound of his breathing, he would not stir soon -- here was the chance she'd been waiting for. She swung her legs over the side of the bed, quickly snatching up her clothing in the dark, following the trail of clothes all the way to the front door. Dressing as she walked, she headed to the room she'd scoped out on their way in, which appeared to be an office.
Slipping on her robes, she pushed the office door open, just barely cracking it and slipping inside. Closing the door, she lit her wand and looked about, trying to figure out where Cygnus would likely keep his work stuff. There wasn't anything in particular that she was searching for -- just anything that could confirm or deny his joke about where he worked. The desk seemed like the likeliest place, so she rummaged through the first drawer which, strangely, was unlocked. There didn't appear to be anything more interesting than bank statements, but that didn't prove anything except that he did in fact work for the Ministry. The department wasn't listed, so Ariadne was about to try one of the locked drawers below when she caught a glimpse of what appeared to be a sketchbook.
Intrigued, she pulled out the slim leather-bound volume, and flipped randomly to a page. What she saw made her mouth go dry and her heart start pounding furiously. Her own eyes, staring back at her in startling accuracy -- and there was no mistaking them, set as they were in her face, turned slightly away and wearing a familiar expression of blank sadness. Her brow was drawn in a familiar, set expression of determined focus. The sketch was gorgeous and lovingly drawn, and completely terrifying. What else could she think but that he'd been following her -- and now she'd gone and slept with him.
Slamming the book shut, she threw it back into the drawer and shut it as quietly as she could, trying not to panic. Her hands shook as she unlocked the other drawer with her wand, rummaging quickly for anything, anything, that could prove or disprove where he was employed. At this point she just wanted to leave as soon as she could.
There were indeed case files stamped "D.O.M. -- CONFIDENTIAL" but those, she assumed, would quickly be missed. Finally she managed to swipe a sheet of parchment which appeared to be a simple memo regarding a minor procedural change, and CC'ed to the entire department. She noticed Cygnus was listed as "Cygnus Aquila" -- most interesting -- but the list of names of the other Unspeakables was pay dirt if she'd ever seen it. Shoving it into her pocket with shaking hands, she replaced everything neatly and closed the drawer, locking it.
Not a full minute later, she was standing out on the sidewalk, staring up at the building where Cygnus lived and memorising everything about how it looked and where it was located. Ariadne refused to allow her rattled nerves to get in the way of the job. With that, she Disapparated silently into the early morning.
