Gryffindor Subitute Tryouts

The Gryffindor team stood ready to start the first round of tryouts for the Subitute team, this was Alex's idea incase anyone of them couldn't play in the game they still had a skilled back up. The suditute team would also play in the practice games and have a higher chance at getting a spot on the actual team later if the position opened.

"Okay All, we are early so, warm up first toss the quaffle around you know the drill, cause of my unfortunate accident for the last game, we have extra time to make up for it, so lets get going" he said going up into the Air with his team and to await the first prospectives to tryout. Wondering if his sister might be one of them.

Charisma Zolnerowich and Shelly Archer stepped up at approximately the same time. They exchanged a glance with each other before Charisma took a step backward. "Go ahead," she murmured to the kid.

Shelly looked up at the team. She had actually been about to head up to the stands to watch, but everyone seemed to think she was there to play. The thought made her grin. The first year most certainly did want to try out...

Feigning ignorance to the No First Years rule for the time being Shelly clambered on her broom and soared up to meet the team. "Hi!" she beamed, not sure what to say but definitely ready to give these tryouts her all!

Kate hadn't bothered to show up for the regular tryout, convinced that she'd never make it and even if she did, that everyone would whisper about it being favouritism since she was the captain's little sister. But at Alex's urging, she decided to try for the substitute team; he'd seemed so very disappointed that she didn't try out before, and after all, she probably wouldn't see game play anyway.

So, at the appointed time, she found herself standing amongst the group of contenders, hiding behind a tall blonde that looked to be a seventh year, and a girl younger than herself, who seemed very enthusiastic. Neither particularly encouraged her to say anything, so when the younger girl stepped forward, Kate simply took her spot so Alex would see she was there. Spotting her big brother, she smiled shyly and then looked at her shoes, blushing and hoping no one else would notice.

Alex beamed at the people who turned out, and pleased Katie was among them, despite what people though he wasn't the type to give a position to someone for qudditch who wasn't skilled for it. His firend, sister or not. He was glad Katie came as the chance to play might pull her out of her shell a bit, or at least he hoped.

He sent a nod to her before looking over the others who came, his firend Charisma arrived he was looking forward to seeing her play that much was sure, and the little first year, she was interesting to concidering the no first years rule..

"Ah new candidtes have arrived, alright everyone lets get this show on the road." he annonced to the team.

"What positions are you guys after?" he asked.

Caleb the eldest person on the team next to Alex quirked an eye brow, apparently shocked he hadn't said anything about the first year trying to tryout..

"But she is a first year" he muttered pointing to Shelly.

Alex shrugged, "If she has the guts to try McConn I don't see why not, besides the rule has been bent before.." he said turning back to the three perspectives..

"If you say so Al" Caleb said apparently talking there captains word.

The two twin beaters on the team noticed Katie and Charisma there as well, "His sister and his firend?" Ava whispered.

If Alex heard he said nothing focused to the new flyers.

Charisma decided to speak up first. "Chaser or Keeper work for me," she said, smirking. "Though, depending on what the others pick I'll give Beater a try, too." A glance around at the other potentials punctuated the statement. There were a couple of younger students but most were in their third year or beyond.

"Can I try out for everything and see which one I like best?" Shelly inquired enthusiastically, not sure what position she wanted to play. It was so hard for her to pick! "I'd like to try for Beater or Seeker most, though..." The little witch blushed vividly when one of the original team members called her out on her age, but stood firm. Not one to be deterred Shelly grinned once again as the matter settled itself.

Kate spoke directly to Alex -- but then again, her voice was so soft no one else could likely hear her, anyway.

"Chaser, please," she murmured, her eyes firmly locked onto the grass in front of her.

Alex smirked it would be an interesting tryout, "Excellent" he said after Kate said she would be a chaser.

"Alright here is what we will do, Charis, and Kat you two will team up with Caleb and try and make a score on Jacob here. Kaylee and Amara you watch them and see how they do." he instructed.

He turned to Kate before going over to Shelly, "Hey Kat, try to have fun with it eh?" he said patting her shoulder before turning to his young first year. He hoped Kate would understand he wasn't being more active in her tryout. He did that on purpose so if she did well enough and made the team no could say it was because he favored her, same with Charisma. Besides Kaylee and Amara we nice enough and honest. if Kat and Charisma did well they would tell him so.

"Now Shelly right? Don't worry I have something different planned for you at the moment, you will come with me and the twins. Ava! Ara get over eh" he called to his beaters.

"Aye Captian" the girls said in union.

"Since you want to try everything we'll start with seeker and beater first, plus they will let me see how well you fly. So, want to try seeker or beater first?" he asked. Normally he would be rather hesitant to let an 11 year old try at beater. It was one of the more dangerous positions really, but he though he would give her a shot, the girl seemed to be full of surprises.

Charisma nodded to Alex and then looked to Kate. The words of encouragement Alex had for his little sister did not escape Charisma's notice. "You'll do fine. Let's go," she said to Kate and gestured for her to go ahead first. The seventh year discreetly glanced at Alex one last time before joining the designated group.


Shelly nodded enthusiastically when Alex got her name right. She was curious what he had planned. At mention of the beaters and their combined reply Shelly looked to them and smiled. To Shelly's recollection she had never actually encountered twins in real life. Vaguely she wondered how Alex - or anyone else, for that matter - was able to tell one from the other. The little girl wondered what it would be like to have a twin, and pondered for a moment how Nikki would've handled it if Shelly had a twin.

Alex's suggestion tore Shelly from her train of thought. "Okay! Um... Can we try Beater first, please?" she asked, though sounded much more like a cheer, and glanced between Alex, Ara, and Ava. Then she giggled, "The bats kinda remind me of baseball."

Kate blushed slightly and nodded at Alex before instinctively looking over at Charisma for what to do.

"Thanks," she murmured, doing as Charisma wanted and leading the way towards the boy that Alex had indicated was named Caleb. "Hi," she said uncertainly, looking at her broom more than at the boy. "Shouldn't we be mounting our brooms now?"

Caleb nodded, "You bet Kate" he said, getting on his broom and taking off into the air rather quick. "I will be the support only, it will be up to you two to score the shots" he said with a grin tossing the quaffle to Charisma.

Jacob cleared his throat, "You mean try score some shots" he said smirking. "Give me all you got Ladies" he said with a salute.

Kaylee and Amara just laugh and rolled there eyes from the observertion area, keeping a close watch on there new possible Alernates.

The Twins laughed, "Aww she is cute Captian" said Ara.

"Can we keep her?" Ava continued as they circled over head.


Alex cluckled, "Don't worry, they are always like that" he muttered to the 11 year old, handing her the bat. "Lets try it on for size, when the budger come back hit it as hard as you can" he instructed taking a bat out for him self as well.. just incase a beater wasn't her calling.

Charisma mounted her broom. Kate was right in that they should really get the tryouts started. "Right," she said to Caleb, catching the quaffle. Her eyes shifted to the other wizard of their group.

"Be careful what you wish for, Jake. I'm pretty sure Kate and I will give ya a run for your money. Right, Kate?" Charisma gave Jacob a smirk that was slightly flirty, and favored Kate with a friendly wink of encouragement. Without another word Charisma flew a couple of feet toward the goal posts.


Shelly took the comments from the twins in good stride. They actually reminded her of Lori. She tilted her head in slight confusion to Alex, but nodded. With barely-contained excitement she took the spare bat, marveling at how similar yet different it was to a baseball bat. "Okay!" Shelly beamed at the instruction, watching as the bludger soared out from its case. It flew around for a little bit and then came hurtling straight toward Shelly.

The eleven-year-old gave a slight grin. It was just like those machines that chucked the baseballs at you, only there wasn't a machine and the ball was brownish-black. Shelly waited, and waited, and waited just a tiny bit more until it was just nicely in her reach before she swung...

* CRACK! *

Shelly had put her all into the hit, almost slipping, but sent the bludger hurtling toward the twins and straight for the goal posts. There was a faint twanging sound as the ball met the solid metal of the goal post. Realizing just how far it had gone, Shelly grinned at her three observers. In her opinion it had been a good hit. However she also realized she would likely have to boost her physical strength a bit more to truly become worthy of an official spot on the team.

Quickly following Charisma's lead, Kate practically leapt onto her broom, eager to get off the field. Being in the sky freed her from the fears and insecurities that preyed on her on the ground, and she'd learned from the best. She couldn't resist doing a few barrel rolls before finally righting herself, grinning sheepishly at Charisma and Caleb.

"Well, are you gonna hog the ball, then?" she asked Charisma, still grinning.

Kaylee and Amara looked at eachother, at the quick transformation of Katelyn Nighthook, they weren't sure of her at first but she suddenly started acting much like her brother once in the air.. And they all felt it.

Jacob smirked "Now that is more like it" he said reading himself to make some saves.

Caleb watched, now plenty curious on this now, "Nighthooks and flying, perhaps there is something in the air with them" he muttered.

Alex let out a bark of a laugh, "Nice shot Shell! likely make a great beater one day"

The twin laughed hitting the second bludger away form them, " The budger knocked her back quite a bit though Captain.' said Ara.

"She could get knocked off her Broom pretty quick like that" commented Ava.

Alex nodded in agreement, "I am impressed Shelly it was a wonderful shot no doubt about that, but you still might not be big enough for it. Though I would encourage you to try for beater again in a few tears. now for my personal favorite... Seeker" he said with a grin as he removed th golden snitch.

He then let it go, "Up you go Shell I will let you go at it your self for a bit and if it still not found I will join you" he said picking up his own broom and taking to the air to watch.

"Watch out for Bludgers, Ara and Ava will Guard you, but just in case" he said advisng caution. He wanted to see how good a flyer she was. as well and a seeker tryout was the best way..

"Don't insult us Captian" the twins huffed.

Alex merely smirked..

He then Chanced a glance at his sister who was up in there Air, "Show em what your made of Sis" he muttered more or less to himself.

Abby knew she was late for quidditch try-outs, but she didn't realize how late she was. All the other students were already trying out and she hoped no one took the position she wanted. She stopped running when she arrived at the pitch and waited she can catch her breath. The young Gryffindor took a glance around her surroundings and saw, well hope she saw, the captain. Nervously she walked up to the captain.

"Excuse me, sorry I'm late I lost track of time. Is it to late to try out?" She asked.
