Thought I'd just post here some potential ideas for class rps or what student could say they're doing for homework in the event people are searching for ideas. These are directly copied and pasted from my original document, so some of it might not make sense or be very grammatically correct (it's originally a table in format).
Ancient Runes Professor Nikolai Malfoy
Year 3 - Difficulty: BeginnerLearn Runic alphabet and how to use it. Translate simple words and sentences directly encoded into English. Simple simulations such as a maze and working different puzzles based on translation, which would generate success. Simple applications of wearing a rune and journaling what happens, or writing applications – such as an essay.
Year 4 - Difficulty: Lower IntermediateReview of the relevant alphabet(s). Simulation, translation, and application become slightly more complex. May visit a Rune museum or similar, where the history, usage, etc. of runes may be viewed safely.
Year 5 - Difficulty: Upper IntermediateOther languages or runic alphabets covered. First time (safe) field trips, not of the museum variety, are offered. Also the first time when obscure material is given to the student to translate or digest in simulation. Project to make a runic Rosetta Stone.
Year 6 - Difficulty: Moderately AdvancedVote on alphabet review. Limited complex runic application. Obscure rune translation. With consent from parentals, slightly more dangerous field trips are taken.
Year 7 - Difficulty: Highly AdvancedThere is no review of the alphabet here, and no new languages distinctly covered. It is all strictly business. Written runic spells for application, translation of difficultly obscure pieces. Exams may feature translation from rune to Greek/Latin and from there into English, or may be in a completely “new” language for added trickiness in prep for NEWTs. NEWT practical involves a language never-before encountered in class. Runes are exclusively used when handing in papers. Enchanting projects.
