You walk up the stairs into DADA Professor Calynda Perno’s office and you are immediately struck by how dim the office is, especially for someone with claustrophobia. But the candles more than make up for the poor natural light. The first thing you see once your eyes adjust to the lighting is the heavy oak desk behind two green and silver chairs that students would use to sit and talk with Professor Perno. You then step onto the round silver rug that helps keep the cool stone floor warm into the winter.
To your left when you step on said rug is a bookshelf, but we’ll come back to that in a minute.
To your right and back a little behind you, is a table that holds a photo of Callie’s family. Her parents are in the back row. Her two brother flank Callie and her sister in the photo. The Dryden line is known for being Gryffindor, so it’s a shock to see the green and silver of Slytherin amidst the gold and red of her family. Professor Perno also keeps her papers that she needs to take to her next class on that table.
Back to the bookshelf. The top right holds the darkest books known to the Dryden line. Below that is how to defend yourself against dark magic. The bottom holds charm books including some very, very rare books. The top right holds the potions books that holds the recipes for her medicine that she takes due to something she cannot remember (see profile). The middle right holds her (dare she say it?) murder mystery books. There is something very intriguing about curling up by the fire in a stone castle with a good murder mystery book. The bottom right holds some history books she inherited from her grandfather when he passed away. Mixed in between those are some transfiguration books. The middle part of the shelves however, are quite different. They are real books, and some are potions, transfiguration, charms, history on the top half. The bottom half holds books that are books that she herself has written and published under a pseudonym. All are Defense Against the Dark Arts books. There is also a secret to this bookcase.
Move the third book in on the right of the middle shelf in the middle of the case and it the middle case swings open. Behind it leads to a different room (See Calynda’s Secret Room).
It’s obvious to the casual observer that Callie is a former Slytherin.
But she welcomes one and all.
